Known in Swahili as Mvinje.
Whistling Pine is an evergreen, dioecious or monoecious tree 60 m tall, with a finely branched crown. Cone like fruit. Fast growing and robust, this tree makes an excellent wind-breaker. The wood is salt resistant but vulnerable to termites.
Widely used as a bonsai subject, the Whistling Pine makes excellent hot-burning firewood and is also used for ornamental purposes.
