Botanical name: Ficus thonningii

Known in Kikuyu as Mugumo. Also known as the Sacred fig or Strangler fig.

A large evergreen tree to 20-40m, with a low, dense, rounded crown, often epiphytic initially (growing on other larger trees, the association often leading to the death of the host species by strangling).  Attractive to birds and animals because of its yellow/red fruit. Often start life as an epiphyte.

Uses are for firewood, medicine, fodder, food (edible fruit), medicine (bark), shade, ornamental, manure, fibre, glue  & live fence, ceremonial.
